Project no.4
My Community

Project Type  Public Space Design
Location  The Mall, Nanxiang, Shanghai

"My Community”, a youth community center project in Shanghai, China, was an exciting challenge for ESNA & CO, as we were tasked with transforming a low-traffic corner of a shopping mall into a temporary multi-purpose facility that provides public space, programs, and services for the local community. As an interior designer, the primary goal was to create a space that was inviting, functional, and adaptable for various community activities and events.

To achieve this, we utilized a range of design techniques to create a warm and inviting atmosphere, including a mix of textures, colors, and materials. The design incorporates flexible and multifunctional spaces, such as a large event hall, a cozy lounge area, and a workshop room, all of which can be easily adapted to accommodate different activities and events.

One of the most significant challenges of designing a temporary space that feels permanent is striking a balance between durability and adaptability. The design team had to consider the temporary nature of the facility and the need for easy dismantling while ensuring that the space feels welcoming and cohesive. To address this, the designers incorporated durable materials that can be reused in future projects, such as the modular furniture and lighting fixtures, while also designing built-in fixtures that can be easily removed and reinstalled in another location.
